Congratulations to Samuel Wright, left, who has been selected for the 16-strong longlist for the 2013 Sunday Times EFG Private Bank Short Story Award. It is the world’s richest prize for an individual short story; the winner, to be announced on the 22nd of March, will receive £30,000. Samuel, shortlisted for last year’s Bristol Short Story Prize, joins such revered short story writers as Ali Smith, Sarah Hall, Junot Diaz and Helen Dunmore on the longlist.
Reacting to the news, Samuel says: “I was more than a little staggered to see some of the names up there – as far as I am concerned, Junot Diaz and Ali Smith are two of the best writers in the world right now. It’s great to get the exposure for some of my work – and maybe even score myself an agent.”
We will be keeping fingers firmly crossed for Samuel for the rest of the competition.
