There is more good news for Chloe Wilson, who recently won 2nd prize in our 2018 competition. Chloe has been signed by literary agent Kate Johnson of the New York based MacKenzie Wolf Literary Agency. Kate chaired this year’s Bristol Short Story Prize judging panel.
Chloe is based in Melbourne, Australia. She has written two poetry collections, The Mermaid Problem and Not Fox Nor Axe, and has been shortlisted and won a number of awards, including being shortlisted for last year’s prestigious Commonwealth Short Story Prize.
Kate says of Chloe’s writing: “I was so impressed with the quiet intensity of Powerful Owl – I’m always drawn to complicated, imperfect characters and gray areas, and this story grapples with the very idea of moral ambiguity head on. I read more of Chloe’s writing and found a consistent assuredness in her voice, her wit, her craft: her stories are alternately sweet and acidic, uncomfortable and enchanting, weird and utterly wonderful.”
Chloe says: “I am absolutely thrilled to have signed with Kate. To be recognised in any way in a literary competition is wonderful. But the Bristol Prize has offered me something even greater – an opportunity that will extend past the competition and into the future. I am honoured that a reader as fine as Kate has seen something of value in my work. And I’m immensely grateful to the Bristol Prize for creating a space where writers of short fiction can be discovered and championed.”
We look forward to reading much more of Chloe’s work in the future.
Chloe’s brilliant story, Powerful Owl, which won 2nd prize in this year’s Bristol Short Story Prize is published in our latest anthology along with the 19 other shortlisted stories from our 2018 competition. It is available from Tangent Books.
