Congratulations to Angela Readman, who was shortlisted for the BSSP in 2012 and published in our 5th anthology .
Angela’s debut novel, Something Like Breathing, has just been published by leading UK indie publisher And Other Stories. It has been receiving some great reviews. Sarah Gilmartin, writing in the Irish Times says: ‘From the wilderness of the setting to seminal moments in the girls’ friendship, Readman captures her subjects with ease and clarity. Something Like Breathing is a charming debut whose young voices beguile from the beginning and impart their lessons with a light touch along the way.’ While Francesca Carrington in the Daily Telegraph says: ‘Readman’s strength lies… in capturing that teenage state of in-betweenness’.
The publication of Something Like Breathing is the third book Angela has had published since her shortlisting in 2012; it follows a story collection, Don’t Try This at Home, and a poetry collection, The Book of Tides. We look forward to many more publications from Angela, a writer with enormous talent.
Angela’s 2012 shortlisted story, Yoki and the Toy Surprise, is available in our volume 5 anthology published by Tangent Books. The anthology also features stories by other writers who have gone on to bigger things, including Ethel Rohan, Danielle McLaughlin, Alys Conran, Joanna Campbell, Samuel Wright and Melanie Whipman.
