Bertel MartinBertel Martin (Chair)

Bertel is a co-editor of Bristol Review of Books magazine and   director of City Chameleon, a company that specialises in publising poetry and producing live literature performances. The process includes writer development and support, creating access to print for community groups and voluntary organisations and partnership working. Prior to setting up City Chameleon Bertel has worked as a writer, performer, arts administrator and arts project manager in literature, dance, theatre in professional, community and education environments. He is also currently on the Board of Trustees for Circomedia, part of the steering group for the Sustained Theatre SW hub (to raise the profile of BAME theatre practitioners), http://www.citychameleon.co.uk

 











Joe Berger

Joe Berger

Joe is a Bristol-based author, cartoonist, illustrator and animator. He has written and illustrated several picture books for Puffin, including Bridget Fidget and the sequel, Bridget Fidget Hold on Tight! He also co-writes and draws the Pitchers, a weekly 4 panel comic strip about screenwriters in the Guardian, and a single panel cartoon about food in the Guardian weekend magazine, both with his long-time collaborator Pascal Wyse. Joe and Pascal have created several award-winning animated shorts, and a Bafta and Emmy nominated title sequence for the BBC drama Hustle. Joe lives in the Montpelier district of Bristol with his wife and their 3 daughters.




Maia BristolMaia Bristol

Maia is UK Sales Manager at Faber and Faber a role which  gives her the opportunity  to champion not only the  independent publishing of Faber but also the 9 other publishers Faber represent- a list that includes Canongate, Atlantic Books and Granta. It has given her vast experience in spotting innovative and original writing talent, a part of her work she really relishes. Maia is, also, a gifted translator with a specialism in fiction. She lives with her family in the Westbury-on-Trym area of Bristol and is currently enjoying maternity leave in Austria where she is expecting her second child.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Helen HeartHelen Hart

Helen has been a published author since 1999. She has written a number of novels under pseudonyms for Scholastic, Virgin Books and HarperCollins, and has been a regular contributer to Emap Magazines’ FHM. As a co-director of Redwing Design, she supplies copywriting, editing and proofreading services for commercial clients. Tania HershmanTania Hershman

Passionate about short stories, Tania - whose first collection, The White Road and Other Stories, was commended in the 2009 Orange Award for New Writers - founded The Short Review in 2007 to shine the spotlight on short story collections and their authors. Originally from London, Tania, a former science journalist, recently moved to Bristol with her partner after spending 15 years in Jerusalem, Israel. Her award-winning stories and flash fiction have been published online and in print and broadcast on Radio 4. Tania will take over as the new editor of Southword journal in December and will judge next year’s Sean O’Faolain short story competition.
