Helsinki-based Joel Willans who appeared in the inaugural Bristol Short Story Prize Anthology with ‘Floating On By’ won last year’s short story category in the Yeovil Literary Prize. Joel’s winning entry ‘The Voice, the Fish Woman and the Coconut Girly ‘ was broadcast on BBC Radio Somerset as part of the prize. The station have also scheduled a reading of ‘Floating On By’ for later this year.

Catherine Chanter triumphs in 2009 Asham Award

Catherine Chanter is one of the winning writers in this year’s Asham Award. Her story ‘A Summer of Findings’ will be published alongside not only the other winners but also well-known names such as Margaret Atwood, Esther Freud and Yiyun Li. Bloomsbury will publish the 2009 Asham Award collection ‘Waving at the Gardener’ in September.
Catherine’s novella ‘Rooms of the Mind’ will be published early next year by Cinnamon Press. She was one of the runners-up in last year’s Bristol Short Story Prize with ‘The Boys’ Guide to Winning: No.1 Hide and Seek’.
